Like any game, roulette has its own set of special lingo. It can be hard to follow a conversation about the game if you aren’t up to date with all of the terms. These are the terms that you need to know.
Most of the terms indicate a specific type of bet; here are the ones that are more common when talking about outside bets. Most outside bets give a near 50% chance of winning, like the “high” or “low” bets, they indicate whether you are betting on numbers 1-18 or 19-36.
“Black” or “red” are also roughly 50% bets, if you are betting “black” than you are betting that the ball will land on a black space, if you are betting “red” than you are betting that the ball will land on a red space. “Even” or “odd” are the last of the 50% outside bets, “even” means you are betting that the ball lands on an even number and “odd” means that you are betting that the ball lands on an odd number.
While the outside bets are mostly self explanatory, the nicknames for the inside bets aren’t so. One of riskiest bets you can make is called the “single” it is the bet of a single number, so if you wanted to bet on the number eight you would want a “single eight.” Betting on a single number are sometimes called “straight bets”. The next betting term has two names it is known as a “square” or a “quarter”, it is a bet that pays out if you are betting on four adjoining numbers such as “28,32,11, and 30.” A “split bet” is a bet on two neighboring numbers like “28 and 32”.
These are some of the more commons bets of each type, however there are some terms that have nothing to do with the type of bet being made.
